Free Botanical Observation Kit: Journal Page + Field Note + Postcard

Start with a plant. See what you discover.

You don’t need to know its name. You don’t need to know how to draw. You don’t even need to know what you’re looking for.

This free botanical observation kit is a printable journal page, a seasonal field note and a digital postcard featuring one of my summer flower paintings.

Together, they offer a small introduction to the way I approach plants as an expressive botanical artist: I observe, ask questions, research and observe some more.

Inside the free download

A digital botanical postcard
A small piece of botanical art featuring one of my summer flower paintings.

A seasonal field note
A glimpse into my own observations of summer flowers and the questions that arise when I spend time with plants.

A botanical observation journal page
Prompts to help you notice details, make a quick sketch, ask a question and record what you discover.

You might notice the shape of a leaf, the pattern of its veins, the way light falls across a petal, an insect visiting a flower or something you've never noticed before.

There is no right way to do this.

My own approach begins with curiosity:

I observe. I ask questions. I research. Then I observe some more.

My background in soil science and my practice as an expressive botanical artist have shaped the way I work with plants and this journal page offers you a small way to try that approach yourself.
