A jar catches the light against a field of blue — chive blossom leaning in soft lavender spikes, buttercup opening bright and simple, fox-and-cubs clustered in warm orange-red and comfrey's small purple bells bowing low beneath the leaves. Four flowers gathered from an ordinary day, held together in one quiet study of color and form.

Part of my 100-day practice of daily observation — a small painting made in the studio, one flower at a time.
